This short exercise demonstrates one of the key concepts used in modern gospel bass playing: stepwise motion.

Many bass players jump too much between chord tones, which can make the bass line sound disconnected. Instead, gospel bass players often create smoother lines by moving through the scale step by step and letting notes connect naturally.
